Elsa Novita, the AEO organizing committee`s chairwoman, said the Olympics was held to improve English-language proficiency of Indonesian youths but also to promote closer relations among students from all over Asia.

She was proud that the Indonesian participants were able to show that their ability to express themselves in English was not second to that of students from other countries.

The event was participated in by at least 500 students from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and a few other countries.

The olympics was for the first time held on a national scale in 2005 and on a South East Asian scale in 2010. Considering the great interest in the event, another olympics would be organized in 2012, Elsa said.
