Vice President Asks Govt Secretaries to Improve Executive Performance

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Boediono on Tuesday asked all secretary generals, chief secretaries and secretaries of ministries and government institutes to improve their performance in implementing the government`s programs and policies.

"The key to performance is implementation. You play an important role in improving performance to implement the government`s programs and policies," he said at a meeting with secretary generals, chief secretaries and secretaries of ministries and government institutes about the government`s key programs in 2012.

To make 2012 a year of performance and achievement, all elements of the government must improve their performance in implementing the government`s programs, he said.

To that end, secretary generals, chief secretaries and secretaries of ministries and government institutes must optimize their important roles in deciding the implementation of government programs, he said.

The first thing needed to improve performance in implementing the government`s programs was increasing the efficiency of the government`s internal control systems, he said.

"It is time for us to revitalize the control system in more accurate ways. Controlling the implementation of programs is the key to achieving optimum results," he said.

The second thing was encouraging the public to take an active part in watching over the implementation of the government`s policies, he said.

The public should get involved not only in watching over the implementation of government programs and policies but also in formulating them, he said.

The vice president attached significance to the public`s participation to improve the government`s accountability and encourage the public`s recognition of the government`s performance.

"At the implementation stage, observations, inputs and corrections from the public are important," he said.

The government needed inputs and corrections from the public in implementing its programs and policies and therefore, it was imperative to always maintain two-way communication between the government and the public, he said.
