Foreign Affairs Minister Retno L. P. Marsudi highlighted Indonesia′s unwavering stand to consistently promote the role of women in maintaining international peace.

"Indonesia is seeking to actively encourage mainstreaming women′s role as the agents of peace," Marsudi affirmed here on Monday while overseeing a photo exhibition themed "Investing in Peace" being held at South Wall of the UN Headquarters in New York on May 6-17, 2019.

To this end, Indonesia will facilitate greater involvement of women personnel in the UN peacekeeping missions, she noted.

"The number of Indonesian women personnel in UN peacekeeping missions is quite large," she pointed out.

On the basis of the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry′s data as of March 31, 2019, Indonesia has, until now, dispatched 3,080 personnel, comprising 106 women, to eight UN peacekeeping missions.

Indonesia has started regional training programs for women diplomats for peace and security and for female diplomats in the ASEAN and Timor Leste.

Indonesia is presently a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2019-2020 period. Indonesia′s presidency of the UN Security Council in May 2019 outlines the theme of "Investing peace, Improving Safety and Performance of UN Peacekeeping."

The photo exhibition puts the spotlight on the contribution of female Indonesian peacekeepers and capacity-building assistance of Indonesia for the Pacific nations, Africa, and Palestine, and Indonesian humanitarian aid for Myanmar.
