Visit of the President of the Republic of Indonesia to Hungary

19 March, 2013

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his delegation visited Hungary on 6-8 March 2013 at the invitation of President János Áder. President Yudhoyono held bilateral talks with his counterpart President Áder and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. The Indonesian President was accompanied by six cabinet ministers and a sizeable business delegation.

Hungarian President János Áder said that infrastructure-development and water management present good opportunities to strengthen ties between Hungary and Indonesia. At the press conference held after the talks between the two presidents, President Áder underlined that Hungary would be pleased to share water management expertise with Indonesia. The first step in this process could be the soon to be signed memorandum of understanding on providing Hungarian water purification plants to towns across Indonesia.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and five Hungarian ministers received the President of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in the Parliament Building on March 7. The two officials agreed that the two countries will tighten their relations within the fields of agriculture, water management and the pharmaceutical industry.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán informed the Indonesian President about the economic situation in Central Europe, emphasizing that our region may be of heightened interest for the dynamically developing Indonesia in the coming years.

The Prime Minister of Hungary and the President of Indonesia agreed that following the financial crisis and the restructuring of the world economy, new value-based social and economic systems must be established in the interests of sustainability.

The two officials also agreed to launch a joint higher education scholarship program. Within the framework of this program, more than 50 Indonesian students may soon begin their studies in Hungary.
